CURRENT PROJECT

The Shift Project

The Shift Project is a 3 phase multidisciplinary collaboration of dance, poetry and film that considers how context effects perceived meaning. This project that will include original poetry, choreography, sound and film began with initial performances on April 29th and 30th at Open Door Studios in Charlotte NC. The Shift Project will culminate is a final immersive site-adaptive performance and film screening(details coming soon).

In The Shift Project: Phase 1, de’Angelo Dia and xavia-margrith miles created original works of poetry gathered around the ideas of how context effects perceived meaning. Sarah Council Dance Projects created choreography that related to the poetry and themes of the work and composer Ron Parks responded to both in sound. This first exploration was performed at Open Door Studios on April 29th and 30th with the support of the Kinetic Works NC Choreographer’s Residency Project And the ASC Artist Support Grant.

The Shift Project: Phase 2 is a movement and film exploration that will experiment with filming sections of the choreographed movement in several different locations to further explore how context and proximity may influence the way something is viewed and understood. The edited footage will be used in the third phase of The Shift Project, a culminating, immersive, site-adaptive performance.

The Shift Project: Phase 3 will present the final work in an immersive, site-adaptive experience of film, dance, poetry and sound.
